WFPD First Reading of Fire Code Ordinance No. 13-2023
In accordance with California Health and Safety Code Section 13869.7, I have attached a copy of the District’s proposed ordinance 13-2023 adopting and amending the 2022 California Fire Code. The Ordinance, which includes the District’s findings supporting its amendments to the Fire Code (see Health and Safety Code Section 18941.5), will be introduced for first reading, and discussion, at the District Board’s meeting on Tuesday, April 25. The Board will hold its public hearing on Ordinance 13-2023 on Tuesday, May 30, at which time the Board may adopt the Ordinance.
We would, of course, be happy to discuss the proposed Ordinance and any questions or concerns that you may have. Any changes to the proposed Ordinance must be made prior to May 25 so that they can be addressed by the District Board at its May 30 meeting. If you would like to make written comments to the proposed Ordinance, please do so prior to the May 30 meeting. These comments will become part of our public hearing record. (See Health and Safety Code Section 13869.7.)
Please note that I have attempted to note changes from the District’s 2019 Fire Code (Ordinance 12, attached) by marking the relevant language in red. But there may be instances in which deviations from our prior code are not so marked. For that reason, I have attached a copy of Ordinance 12 for your reference. Again, I am happy to discuss with you the District’s proposed amendments to the 2022 California Fire Code, and how the CA Fire Code and our local amendments to that Code may differ from the District’s prior Code.
The District is also working on ordinances related to hazardous vegetation and flammable fuels management, including defensible space, fuel breaks, and procedures for hazardous vegetation abatement. We will keep you apprised of our schedule for the introduction of these ordinances.
