The KNOX-BOX® Rapid Entry System was specifically developed for the fire department.
Woodside Fire Protection District uses the Knox Entry System to provide secure access to businesses and residences without causing unnecessary damage, potentially saving time, property, and lives during an emergency.
A Knox Key Box is a secure box that is mounted externally to a commercial building that contains access keys in the event of emergency.
A key box is required where:
- Access to a building is difficult.
- In building with fire alarm or sprinkler systems.
- All facilities that are required to submit a hazardous materials business plan.
- Where electronic and manual gates could hamper emergency access.
The Knox Key Box models that are approved by WFPD are:

- Gate & Key Switches: Model 3502
- Knox Padlock: Model 3771
- Commercial KnoxBoxes: KnoxBox 3200 or KnoxVault 4400
- Remote Power Box: Model 4505
