Home MenuBureau of Fire Prevention and Life Safety
The Bureau of Fire Prevention and Life Safety is responsible for enforcing all applicable state and local fire codes and standards. Our full-time fire inspectors, certified by the California State Fire Marshal, are cross trained in both fire inspections and investigations.
The duties of our bureau cover multiple disciplines. This includes plan reviews, permitting, construction reviews, occupancy compliance, and residential based inspections.
We specialize in key components of community risk reduction through efforts with public education, fire and life safety systems, and enforcement. Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is the identification and prioritization of risks, threats and hazards followed by the implementation and evaluation of strategies to lessen their impact. Fire Prevention is the most effective means of reducing loss of life and property due to fires. Our mission is to assist in the preservation of life and property by advocating, promoting, and providing leadership in the prevention and mitigation of fire and other related hazardous conditions. Through the collaboration of fire staff, town leaders, and the community, together we will enhance resiliency and improve preparedness prior and during emergency events.
If you have questions about fire codes, defensible space, a concern about a property or building, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
